Our sweet baby girl made a whirl wind entrance into the world on August 8, 2018.
Bronwyn's Birth Story
During the pregnancy there were times where I thought maybe labor was coming early. Cramping/contractions at regular intervals. I chalked them up to braxton hicks, they would sometimes continue for a couple hours. I actually lost my mucous plug at around 30 weeks. I look back now and wonder if it was the start of labor. Around week 34 I developed numbness in nether region to the point where I couldn't tell if I went to the bathroom or not. Little Miss B had just dropped so low all the pressure was just not going over well with my nerves.
The day I went into labor I was 37 weeks along. The doctor had planned to induce at week 39. Dave and I both had the day off work. I had a non-stress test at the hospital that morning and baby was doing perfectly. My family doc just happened to be there, we had a short chat and she said she would check my cervix at my appointment in the afternoon. We took the kids swimming in the early afternoon then went to my doctors appointment. To my surprise I was 4cm dilated already! She figured I would have the baby that night but I was in denial. I figured baby was snug as a bug and wasn't about to come any time soon. So off to the grocery store Dave and I went to pick up some things to make a home remedy that induces labor. Again I didn't really think it would work but thought I would try just for fun. He joked about my water breaking in the grocery store but I assured him this would not happen.
We got home and Dave insisted we pack the hospital bags but I thought he was nuts and just did it to appease him. I drank my little home made drink and plunked my butt on the couch. I announced that nothing was going to happen and we should just relax. My boss text me so see how my doctors appointment went as I was still working. I confirmed I would be at work the next day and that everything was great. I went to the washroom and then that's when it all started. I noticed some contractions coming regular and strong. I opened the fridge to get a drink and then a really painful one came and I told Dave that I thought I was in labor. I really couldn't believe it was happening, I wasn't truly convinced. He jumped up and said we needed to go to the hospital ASAP and I said "NO, I need to time my contractions first because they will want to know". He didn't take my answer and loaded the car up and said we were going.
On the way to the hospital I started timing my contractions they were coming every 2.5 mins and lasting about 1.5 mins. We checked in at maternity and I was brought back into a delivery room. I was still kinda in shock and not convinced I was in labor. The nurse let me go for a bit and at my next check I was 6cm. We decided to break my water, as with every delivery I've had the doctor has always had to break it. Once that was done I went from 6-10cm in 16 minutes. When it was time to deliver I pushed for 4 minutes and our little girl made her escape.
I have to say this was the easiest delivery yet. 4 hours of labor and 4 minutes of pushing. Our baby girl weighed in at 7lbs 3oz and was 22 inches long.
